Alexandra Spingarn is a painter and printmaker who grew up in New York City. She trained at the Art Student's League of New York in Manhattan and Woodstock, NY where she studied with Harry Sternberg and Arnold Blanch in the late 1950's and early 1960s. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1961 and the Pratt Center for Printmaking 1964-69 in New York under Director Fritz Eichenberg she studied with Benton Spruance and Erich Monch; worked as an assistant printer with Irwin Hollander in Lithography. She was an assistant teacher of Lithography in 1967-69. The artist moved to Boston in 1969 and still lives there painting in her studio in her home. She painted consistently and worked at the Boston Museum School with John Brennan and Impressions Workshop with Paul McGuire making lithographs. She showed for over 17 years at the Paul Kessler Gallery in Provincetown, MA. She completed a BA in Classics at Harvard University '95 and a Master's degree in Renaissance Prints at Harvard University in 2000, with a thesis on the Engravings of Andrea Mantegna. Alexandra Spingarn exhibited in over 20 one woman shows and over 40 Group shows in the United States, Canada and in Europe. She is represented in many private collections and in the permanent collection of the Houston Museum of Art, The Harvard University Mongan Print Center, the Boston Public Library and The Dulin Gallery among others.
